Agenda Item: VII.H.

Consider/Approve Request from Career Technology Center to Declare Property Surplus and Authorize Most Economical Disposition

Background Information:

The Career Technology Center, through Mr. Russ Davis, has submitted a request to the Board to declare surplus various pieces of vocational equipment that has been taken out of service due to age and/or safety concerns. Although these items are no longer of any use to the System, it is estimated that salvage value of the equipment, as a whole, is in excess of the value specified in TCA §49-6-2007(d)(1), which states “Surplus personal property in local school systems which has no value or has a value less than two hundred fifty dollars ($250), may be disposed of without the necessity of bids as required by this section.” Therefore, sealed bids will be sought to dispose of this surplus property if approved by the Board. One (1) advertisement will list all items of equipment. In addition, Mr. Davis has requested that funds generated from the sale of the surplus property be designated to purchase up-to-date equipment for the vocational programs.

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend the Board declare the above-noted items as surplus and approve the disposition via sealed bids. In addition, I recommend that funds generated from the sale be designated to purchase equipment that will benefit the career technology programs.
